Microsoft Preparing Windows 8 Tablet Design Demos For June
A recent report from Business Insider states that Microsoft is all set to unveil the design features of Windows 8 by the end of its fiscal year in June. This person claims that Microsoft is taking a more Apple-like approach to interface design this time around, and will also be using concepts from the “Metro” interface developed for Windows Phone 7. Ironically, that interface grew out of the Media Center UI that shipped with Windows XP back in 2004, but the Media Center interface was meant to be viewed from up to 10 feet away and controlled with a remote control, whereas Metro is meant to be used with touch screens. Microsoft has already started compiling “Milestone 3? for Windows 8. As M3 work has begun, Milestone 2 development has obviously wrapped up. Build 6.2.7950.0.winmain_win8m2.110223-1820 is the final M2 build. M3 builds 6.2.7955.0.winmain_win8m3.110224-1502 and 6.2.7956.0.winmain_win8m3.110228-1701 were compiled on February 24th and 28th, respectively and show that the internal roadmap of Windows 8 target dates, from ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley that surfaced few days ago are accurate. Many believe that Microsoft Windows 8 will have its first beta by September, but the company usually has at least one or more extra beta releases followed with at least one more candidate release. Microsoft is known for a three-year release schedule it adheres to for new OS and could have Windows 8 on tablets by the end of 2012, which would put it three years after Windows 7 shipped. Microsoft has had a hard time cracking the tablet market with Windows and is far behind the iOS and Android based tablets. The HP Slate was supposed to help Windows break into the market with a splash but its delay ultimately lead it to more niche sales. We will see if Windows 8 will help Microsoft gain ground in the booming tablet market. It is said that Microsoft is taking a more Apple-like approach to interface design this time around, and will also be using concepts from the “Metro” interface developed for Windows Phone 7.
