Weather-Ready Bike Bag Keeps Your Stuff Drier Than a Mormon Wedding

The worst part about biking to work isn’t dodging cars — or having your co-workers see you in spandex. It’s getting caught in a downpour without proper protection. After a helmet, a cyclist’s best friend is a weather-ready bag.

Constructed with double TPU-coated nylon and heat-welded seams, this roll-top from Aquapac kept our belongings drier than a Mormon wedding. Equally cool: The Velcro backpack strap quickly detaches, and the built-in clips allow the bag to be clipped easily to a pannier rack in a matter of seconds (five!).

Sure 1,400 cubic inches isn’t roomy enough for a weekend’s worth of underwear, let alone a 12-pack. But we managed to tote spare slacks, a shirt, socks, shoes and a laptop with ease. We’re not saying there aren’t rain-resistant messenger bags that can hold a lot more; there are. But we’ve yet to find one that’s as airtight. Rolling the Aquapac’s opening over on itself three times forms a seal that is virtually impenetrable in the rain. Bring it on, spring!

WIRED Reflective patches with checkered design — safe yet hip! Cushioned mesh backpack strap stashes in an outer pocket rather than bogarting your precious indoor real estate. Lock-down: chest strap for comfort and security; compression straps for space-saving.

TIRED Swimmers beware: Bag not at all submersible. Noticeable, albeit slight, leakage after a few seconds in a bathtub. Backpack strap is bulky when stashed. Re-attaching said strap correctly isn’t immediately intuitive. Naomi Klein alert: Plain, prevalent company logo.
