Everybody’s recapping the year’s best music and movies, but reading the roundups can sometimes feel like dancing about architecture. Thanks to DJ Earworm, we can enjoy most of the year’s best pop confections in one handy song.
Behold “United State of Pop 2011 (World Go Boom)” — five minutes of 25 of the biggest hits of the last year.
From Adele to OneRepublic, DJ Earworm taps into the year’s best music to make a remarkably cohesive mashup, despite the fact that the artists being mashed run the gamut from rock to rap to Rihanna. Then again, Earworm is a master of combining genres, having won over this writer’s heart with the genius collabo of Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown” with Radiohead’s “Reckoner.”
This isn’t Earworm’s first rodeo: He has been making mixmeat out of each year’s best pop since 2007. The DJ also (literally) wrote the book on mashup construction (2006’s Audio Mashup Construction Kit: ExtremeTech). Check out the video for his latest creation above, then head to DJ Earworm’s site to download an MP3 of the track. See the full list of songs used in the mashup below.
