Here’s an exclusive look at a new trailer for Nintendo’s Professor Layton series of portable puzzle games. The latest in the series, Professor Layton and the Last Specter, will be released on October 17 here in the U.S. for Nintendo DS.

Last Specter is actually a prequel to the first trilogy of games, explaining how the titular top-hatted teacher first met up with his young apprentice Luke. The beginnings of their puzzling partnership involve a massive demon that terrorizes Luke’s hometown.

This greatest-hits video takes us through the most dramatic moments of the professor’s early outings and closes with a teaser for Last Specter.
