SAN DIEGO — You might not recognize actor Doug Jones, but you’ve surely seen him on the movie screen, where he’s portrayed creepy creatures in movies by Guillermo Del Toro and others.
“What I’m known for is being the guy under latex foam rubber,” Jones says in the Wired.com video interview above. “A lot of journalists call me the Lon Chaney of today.”Like Chaney, an early movie actor who earned the nickname “The Man of a Thousand Faces” for his roles in horror films like The Hunchback of Notre Dame and The Phantom of the Opera, Jones has played some truly memorable characters. In Del Toro’s Pan’s Labryinth, he appeared as the ram-horned faun and the eye-handed Pale Man; in the Hellboy movies, Jones played gilled fish-man Abe Sapien.
Jones stopped by the Wired Café during Comic-Con International to talk about working with Del Toro, his roles in Felicia Day’s web series Dragon Age: Redemption and The Guild, and his upcoming Mime Very Own Book, a comedic coffee table tome.
Wired.com video crew: Annaliza Savage, producer; Fernando Cardoso, Michael Lennon and Simon Lutrin, editors; Greg Stidham, camera.
