Apple announced iPad 2 at an event on March 2nd, there were a lot of speculations and rumors that Apple would unveil iOS 5 at the same event. A lot of us were disappointed since it wasn’t even mentioned once during the event. Now, MacRumors is reporting that we could be in for a whole new media event as soon as April. Citing a “reliable” source, German site Macerkopf.de [Google translation] claims  that Apple is expected to hold an event at it’s San Francisco headquarters next month to show off the new MobileMe alongside iOS 5. Back in February, we reported that Apple plans to improve MobileMe by having the service act as a “locker” to hold personal data such as photos, music and videos. It was also said that Apple is considering making the service, which currently costs $99 per year, free. Further evidence of planned changes to MobileMe came as Apple discontinued the sale of retail boxes for the service last month. It has also been rumored that the new MobileMe will rely on self-storage from a home computer for streaming, rather than remotely saved files hosted by Apple. The reason for a MobileMe and iOS 5 sharing an event could be a deep integration between the two. Rumors of a cloud-syncing service for iTunes music have been doing the rounds for some time now, as have claims that the next release of iOS will receive a complete overhaul of the way iDevices handle notifications. Rumors of advanced cloud-integration have been closely linked with yet more noise about a possible iPhone Nano, though that is looking increasingly unlikely. Apple has not commented on any of these speculations, though iOS 5 will need to be presented to the developers sooner or later, with an iPhone 5 expected in the coming months.
