After a recent visit to Korea by Tim Cook (Apple’s current CEO), there are notions being raised of a cooperation between Apple and Samsung. Industry sources are reporting that Cook discussed incorporating Samsung’s AMOLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) display for Apple’s tablet PCs while visiting South Korea. Apple’s current lineup (the iPad 1 and the iPad 2) have liquid crystal displays. The current supplier for the iPad displays is LG Display. An anonymous source reported to The Korea Herald: Apple wants to tap into Samsung’s AMOLED technology for an upgraded version of the iPad 2, considered as many by the iPad 3 that is likely to be launched toward the end of this year. Samsung’s AMOLED technology hasn’t even been used for their own tablet PCs, however it is being implemented on the Galaxy S 2 smartphones. The company is debating using the AMOLED technology with their second generation tablets as of right now. Despite all this information, a Samsung Mobile Display spokesperson denies hearing of any such negotiations with Apple. More so then just the technology itself, Apple’s move to redesign the display could already mean that the Cupertino giant is already in the stages of planning for a new iPad (the iPad 3) for the future. What do you think of the possibility of the next iPad having an AMOLED display? Is it something you would want the next iPad to have?
