Just when it seemed every form of Doctor Who fandom had been explored and every type of literal music video had been made, the two came together and birthed “Literal Eclipse of the Heart.”

It’s the most meta thing to come around in a while, what with it being both a self-referential Doctor Who fanvid and a literal music video. It’s essentially a riff on the internet classic “‘Total Eclipse of the Heart’: Literal Video Version,” with clips from Doctor Who and all-new lyrics (set to the original Bonnie Tyler song) based on the most absurd scenes from the British sci-fi show.

It’s pretty much brilliant, and if you’re not cracking up by, “Here’s where I pretend to be Eva Peron/Look at me I’m lifting my arms” then, well, we don’t know what to do.

“I wanted some kind of un-narrative going through it so decided to have the Doctor illustrating all the lyrics … and various Companions illustrating the others,” YouTube user Zeborah wrote in a post describing the video. “I gender-switched large chunks of stuff accordingly. There were a couple of exceptions — ’strip football and surprise mirror’ because, especially for the first, I couldn’t think of a comparable Companion clip, and ‘I think I lost a contact lens’ because, though Amy’s tear while talking with Van Gogh would have worked, I personally find the Doctor’s ‘happy crying’ tear much more mock-worthy.”

Touché. Check out the clip above (turn on the captions to sing along to the flying TARDIS) and then head over to Zeborah’s website to download the original (you know, for posterity) and learn more about the whiz behind the latest gift the internet hath bestowed upon us. (We’re not worthy.)
