Apple Working On Improving iPhone Calendar Alerts
Apple is reportedly working on new advancements that could dramatically increase the sophistication of functionalities provided by the iPhone’s calendar alerts and other notifications if implemented into future iOS upgrades. Based on this patent application discovered by the folks over at Apple Insider, there’s a good reason to get excited about “dynamic, GPS-enabled calendar alerts” in the near future. The patent application in question is dubbed “Dynamic Alerts for Calendar Events.” Based on the filing with the US Patent and Trademark Office, the patent describes a system capable of delivering to iPhone users an alert based on their current GPS-determined location. Using GPS and a user’s calendar events, the system could determine how long it will take for the person to travel to their scheduled event. The iPhone software could then alert the user accordingly, allowing ample time to travel and meet the scheduled deadline. The patent files also brings to the surface again talk of Apple playing around with crowd-sourced data to fashion one or more services in line with the functionalities mentioned above. If so, such an advancement wouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone, as such that arrangement may ultimately be necessary to tap the full potential contained with the patent filing. Although the planned features sound both exciting and imminent, there’s no reason to believe that Apple will actually roll out any of these new features any time soon. It doesn’t seem likely that it will happen next weeks WWDC. As usual, stay tuned for more news and info on the topic by following us on Facebook, Twitter, and/or subscribing to our RSS feed.
