Alleged Foxconn Source Spots iPhone 5 Prototype [Image]
Rumors of an iPhone 5 with a metal black have caused quite a commotion but now some prototypes of the iPhone 5 have been spotted – pics that confirm a metal back, larger edge-to-edge display, and resemble an iPhone 4 in shape. According to 9to5Mac, a source from Foxconn is claiming that the iPhone 5 prototypes has already been seen at Foxconn and is soon going into the mass production stages. In terms of design, the iPhone 5 is said to look fairly similar to the iPhone 4 except for two very important differences: materials and screen size. Apple was previously mentioned to likely change the rear part of the iPhone 5 to aluminum instead of glass which was used in the first generation iPhone devices or to adopt the design similar to the iPod Touch 4G which was slightly curvy. The design change might be because of many users reporting a lot of issues like scratches on the rear glass surface. Apple now wants to make the device scratch proof and light weight (we might see a liquid metal back) for more durability. Earlier reports also suggest that the side exposed steel antennas which were the main cause of the antennagate fiasco will be discontinued and be designed just behind the Apple logo so that cellular and Wi-Fi signals can penetrate easily. In addition to this, the next generation iPhone 5 is likely to run on a multi-processor A5 chip, similar to the iPad 2 with the possibility of having a dual SIM-card slot for supporting up to two phone lines. The iPhone 5 is likely to be released in either June or July at WWDC 2011 – same event as last year.
