Comex Releases JailbreakMe Teaser; iPad 2 Jailbreak Imminent
The iPad 2 was released more than three months ago and the people who have purchased an iPad 2 and wait to jailbreak it, haven’t been able to satisfy their desire since no iPad 2 jailbreak has been released. The new Apple A5 processor-based architecture in the iPad 2 is proving to be a difficult issue to overcome. The Limera1n exploit, which worked previously on A4-based iOS devices like the iPod Touch 4G and iPhone 4, is hardware-based and since the iPad 2 is A5-based, the exploit does not work on it. This leaves the community to find an all new exploit for the device. iOS device hacker, Comex, had his JailbreakMe Tool which utilized the userland exploit used to jailbreak iOS 4.0 and iOS 4.0.1. Jailbreaking with his tool simply involved sliding the “slide to jailbreak” bar and Comex’s tool did the rest. This was a different step, which some users preferred, over the traditional tools which involved plenty of steps. The exploit was later patched in iOS 4.0.2. Comex recently updated the website for JailbreakMe. The updated page, according to Comex himself is simply a “tease.” The webpage features the following image: You can see it for yourself as well by visiting JailbreakMe.com. The photo shows a signboard which plainly says “PDF.” This leads us to believe that Comex is referring to a potential PDF-based exploit. The question is: which iOS device(s) and iOS version could this be for? We are pretty sure it isn’t for jailbreaking iOS 4.3.3 since that is already covered at the moment. This hint leaves us to hope and desire for this to be a userland untethered jailbreak for the iPad 2 as well as other iOS devices on iOS 5. Comex’s tweets give no hints other than pointing at the tease itself. At this point in time, it is all speculation so your guess is as good as ours. Whether this is for iOS 4.3.3 or iOS 5, any news for an iPad 2 jailbreak would be good news for many at this point in time. For those of you who don’t already know, iOS 5 is set to release this fall and there are several features to look forward to. We covered the official features recently and if you are interested in finding out what they are, you can do so by clicking here. Should Comex save the popular browser based jailbreak for iOS 5? Or do you think he should release it for the iPad 2 sooner then that? Let us know what you think in the comments section below!
