Windows Phone 7 Update Bricked Your Phone? Here’s How To Fix It
Microsoft began the slow rollout of update ( 7008:7004) yesterday for the preparation of the next major update coming in March. The update has been pulled offline due to reports from some Samsung Windows Phone 7 users who started getting errors and ended up bricking their devices. Were hearing Samsung’s Omnia 7 in particular are having the update blues, have no fear Microsoft has a temporary fix. According to Microsoft: Unplug any cables attached. Remove the battery. Place the battery than power on the device by pressing the power, camera and both volume buttons. Hold for 10-15 seconds until “Download Mode” pops up. Now you’re ready to re-install the OS. The phone should boot up by now. All that’s left is to update the phones firmware via the Zune software. You can also try the steps outlined by Neowin Forum-goer Norseman has offered a handy guide for getting your Windows Phone 7 device back on its feet – it’s worth a shot, if the steps outlined by Microsoft do not work for you: Connect your WP7 handset to a power source – NOT YOUR COMPUTER. Turn the phone off. Now turn the phone back on by pressing and holding the power, camera and volume up/down rocker and KEEP HOLDING even when you are asked if you want to format the SD card. Release the three buttons once you see the phone enter ‘download mode’. Now your phone will re-download and install the OS over the air. Leave the phone and if after 15 minutes it hasn’t restarted on its own, force a restart. Set up your phone as if it was new, re-sync and re-update. Once you fix your device do not try to re-installed the update, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the update show up on your device, which will be in 3-days time. We would recommend at this time, not to retry the update, as subsequent attempts will fail similarly. While we continue to investigate the issue, we would ask that you not attempt the update until your device alerts you of another update opportunity, in approximately 3 days’ time. Again, I wouldn’t really worry about not being able to update right now.We are working on it, and yes, we are finding some patterns that we are expect to solve soon This is a minor update, you are not missing any new features, so if you can’t update now don’t stress. Please revert phone to original state (no need to hard reset) and wait couple of days until potential issues are solved, and you will be able to get the update If you had troubles updating I wouldn’t really mess with it… in this unexpected state you might end with a brick phone and that would be a bigger problem We have confirmed reports from users with this bricked phones that these steps above have resolved their issues.
