It seems more and more likely that the next iPhone model update will not come during the usual June / July launch window. There is some speculation that it may not even be released until the spring of 2012 at the earliest which is news that upsets many. Hopefully we won’t have to wait that long for a new iPhone model but we are sure something will be mentioned at WWDC. The Japanese website, macotakara is reporting the following: “According to an anonymous source, this reported product by DigiTimes is improved model of iPhone 4 on same form factor, and uses ARM Cortex-A9 chip as CPU, but it is not confirmed whether this model has single CPU or with dual CPU’s.” Although English doesn’t appear to be their first language, the point they were trying to make came across clear. The next iPhone will be quiet an improvement over the existing model.  It’s also expected to look very similar to the current iPhone 4 and include an 8 megapixel camera, although the camera is unlikely to come from Sony as previous reports have indicated. Other reports also indicate that the new iteration might be the first SIM-less iPhone. The design is mentioned to include three to four internal antennas that would be compatible with both CDMA and GSM wireless carriers, making this  a “world phone.” The design would also help Apple reduce production costs considerably as they would only need to manufacture one iPhone model that would work on all wireless carriers. With Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference starting next week, hopefully Apple will discuss their iPhone hardware plans. At the very least, the future of iOS 5 should be revealed at the event and new hardware designs that take advantage of the latest OS can’t possibly be too far behind.
