At the Apple press event today, CEO Steve Jobs announced that 6.5 billion apps has been downloaded from the App Store. This number contains both iPad and iPhone apps.
Apple hit the 1 billion download in Spring of 2009, so this has been some pretty impressive growth for number of apps downloaded.
Jobs said 200 apps
are being downloaded each second from the App Store. Additionally, the App store now has 250,000 apps, with 25,000 of these apps devoted to the iPad. In January, we learned that Apple reached 3 billion downloads, so it looks like Apple has seen 3.5 billion downloads in nearly 8 months.
