Several people are asking about the iOS 5 jailbreak and well there is good news as we reported before; MuscleNerd has jailbroken the OS with iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, 3rd and 4th gen iPod Touch compatibility. It’s already jailbroken using the Limera1n exploit and you have to remember that it is a tethered jailbreak. For the untethered iOS 5 jailbreak, we’ll have to wait but patience is something we should be good at having at this point. For those of you didn’t already know, the famous iPhone Dev Team member, MuscleNerd had previously posted an image of the jailbroken iPod Touch 4G on iOS 5. It was confirmed with a recent tweet that said the following: iOS5 jailbroken on ipt4g: http://is.gd/7GxIcK http://is.gd/BwPvfh via limera1n + tethered boot..not too many surprises The following are the jailbroken iPod Touch 4G images that were posted: iOS Jailbreak Information: History of GeoHot’s Limera1n For those of you who are unaware, back at the time of iOS 4, GeoHot developer a very strong jailbreak exploit. Instead of releasing his exploit, he used the work that Comex was working on. He used Comex’s work and developed his exploit on top of it to release Limera1n. At the time it was said that he saved his own exploit for the future iOS devices. Limera1n is still here and helping us with the reason being very simple, its a Bootrom level exploit which operates at the hardware level and Apple cannot fix it as they can not revise the same products with new hardware design. Untethered iOS 5 Jailbreak Expected Release Don’t expect the untethered iOS 5 jailbreak to be released anytime soon. The developers will obviously wait for iOS 5 to be released public as it is currently only in its first beta. Apple will release more betas followed by a Golden Master version before the public version is released. I have an iPad 2, what about me? As mentioned before, the Limera1n exploit is not capable of running on an iPad 2 device. As mentioned earlier, it is a bootrom level jailbreak exploit which means it is capable of operating at the hardware level. It was made for the A4 chip that is used inside the iOS devices but the iPad 2 device on the other hand uses an A5 chip instead of the A4 and is therefore not currently jailbroken. There is no bootrom level jailbreak for the iPad 2 as of yet. Stay tuned for more news and info on this topic by following us on Facebook, Twitter, and/or subscribing to our RSS feed. Authors:
