It’s like that fever dream geeks have where the Star Wars prequels were created as part of an evil plot to mess with a beloved trilogy — except in this clip, the nightmare’s actually unfolding for George Lucas.
Behold the “trailer” for George Lucas Strikes Back, which tells the tale of the director’s 20-year imprisonment and the subsequent takeover of his sci-fi franchise by an evil force.
The inspiration for the clip’s premise comes from Korean imprisonment-and-conspiracy film Oldboy, said Mike Litzenberg, who wrote and directed the clip with his Slick Gigolo cohort Bridge Stuart.
“We’re both huge fans of the original Star Wars and Indiana Jones films and thought it would make sense if the stuff that came out more recently was the result of George Lucas getting Oldboyed,” Litzenberg said in an e-mail to Wired.com, “and then for kind of the ultimate geek fantasy when he takes his revenge as violently as possible.”
The clip shows Lucas enraged by what’s being done to the Star Wars name. The director escapes from his captors and gathers up a revenge crew to take on stormtroopers, a coked-up Darth Maul and others running amok with his creation.
“When I heard about midi-chloreans, only one thought kept me going: Find the man who made the prequels and destroy him,” the fake Lucas swears.
Watch the clip above to see the fake filmmaker confront John Williams, engage in a lightsaber battle with Jar Jar Binks and discover the true mastermind behind the prequel conspiracy.
Hey, it’s something to watch while we plan trips to visit Star Tours and debate if and when that live-action Star Wars TV show is ever going to see the light of day.
