The app will be available to download for iPhone and iPod Touch with OS 4 and above, and most Android compatible handsets with a minimum of OS 1.6. Initially the app will be available only in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Netherlands. According to the blog post:

Sony Playstation app will come with the following features:

• Check out your PlayStation Network trophies and keep up to date with your friends’ games and online status.
• Discover all the latest games, news and hardware for your PlayStation 3, PSP and PlayStation 2.
• Read all the announcements on the European PlayStation.Blog.
• Share your favourite products or news with your friends on Facebook, Twitter or via e-mail.

It is interesting to see Sony release an app for the iPhone or iPod Touch, we’ve heard rumors that Sony is planning to release the PlayStation phone to compete with Apple’s iPhone in the smartphone gaming space. Sony promises to bring tons of new features in the next few months.
