However noble, the Droid Razr’s reign as the thinnest smartphone in the world was short-lived (approximately two weeks, by our count). According to recent FCC filings, Fujitsu will soon hold the title with a new smartphone.
A specification sheet for the proposed Fujitsu Arrows F-07D smartphone just passed through the FCC, measuring in at .26 inches thin. That’s a whole .015 inches thinner than the Droid Razr. Take that, Motorola.
Running Android Gingerbread (2.3), the Fujitsu Arrows has a 4-inch, 480×854 resolution display protected by a layer of Gorilla glass.
For a time, Apple’s iPhone 4 held the title of “world’s thinnest smartphone,” measuring in at 9.3mm thick. The Samsung Galaxy S II fought hard for the title, but due to bulges at the top and bottom of the handset, it lost out to Apple.
While Fujitsu’s new phone may earn the “skinniest” badge, it accomplishes the feat by skimping on the innards a bit, boasting less oomph than the Razr. The Arrows has a single-core 1.4 GHz Snapdragon processor, 512 MB of RAM, and 1 GB of storage, while the Razr trumps it with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 32GB of storage.
The Fujitsu Arrows will be available through NTT DoCoMo in 2012. No word on pricing or additional availability yet.
