Spotify l’européen a tenu ce jour sa première conférence de presse « américaine » à New York. Une conférence très attendue par les observateurs et qui effectivement a été l’occasion d’annoncer plusieurs nouveautés et particulièrement un changement d’orientation : Spotify n’est plus seulement la sympathique application de streaming musicale, mais devient une véritable plateforme.

La Plateforme Spotify offre en effet aux développeurs tiers l’opportunité de créer des applications musicales innovantes et interactives. Pour nous, c’est la prochaine étape majeure de l’expérience musicale.

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek

Spotify on Wednesday revealed the “new direction” at which it has been hinting: a new API (application programming interface) that will let developers create apps that are powered by the freemium music subscription service.

In other words: We were right (for the most part).

The change will put Spotify’s more than 15 million legally licensed songs in the hands of developers so they can freely create whatever apps they want out of that music. As CEO Daniel Ek told a posh press conference in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, this will lead to a “burst of innovation.”
